Pharmacology is a multidisciplinary subject which deals with drugs and their interaction with living systems, or any other chemical substances which can produce a biological response. The department will provide quality medical education and adequate opportunities to perform quality research including clinical development of pharmaceutical products, preclinical research and toxicology studies, therapeutic drug monitoring, pharmacokinetics, pharmacovigilance, pharmacoeconomics, and rational prescribing practices. The focus of research will also be aimed at the molecular level in the areas such as pharmacogenomics etc.
The department is developing a state of the art clinical research center with statutory approvals including Drugs Control General of India and NABH, NABL etc and will be open for industry academia collaborations at national and international levels like ICMR, WHO etc. The assistance of professional bodies like Medical Pharmacologists Society and Indian Pharmacological Society will be utilized to bring training programs and national workshops in research methodology, statistics, publication and communication methodology etc. The Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre, under the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), will be started soon.
